The Power Of Music With Heidi Richards

For Singer and Songwriter Heidi Richards, whenever she writes or performs, the feeling she has when she's on stage is something that she describes as feeling like she's in the right place at the right time.
For most of her life, Richards has always been in love with the idea of singing. She grew up singing in church and later sang in a competitive Jazz Choir while in high school. As a young adult, Richards sang backup for local bands including Marcia Lynn, Black Ayan, Tibbi & the GST, and Tibbi & Family Soul.
"I began playing guitar just over three and a half years ago in 2018, as a way to deal with the suicide of a good friend. Music quickly became my therapy. It was a way to get what I was feeling out of my head and into a medium that I could understand," she shares.
"It was this overwhelming of emotions that continued to push me down the singer-songwriter path, which eventually led to my first song, "Keep Me Alive." It's a song about an alternate outcome, and I still perform it today, but I no longer tear up or cry when I play it."
Explaining that a lot of her music is interesting, she states that most of her songs are different and tell stories about her life or express her feelings.
"It's almost like the songs provide a window into who I am beyond the smiles that everyone sees. Through my music, the listener is provided a side to me that very few have access to. It has also allowed me to be okay with being vulnerable with my most intimate thoughts and feelings," she says.
Describing her music as quirky with a handful of soulful lyrics, Richards' style can range from folk to jazz, to rock, and even some country.
"The best advice I can give to someone wanting to pursue this path is go for it and don't let anything stop you," she says. "Trust in yourself and keep at it knowing that you are good enough. Do it for the love of art and everything else will follow, and most importantly, surround yourself with positive people and those who believe in you."
Within this year, Richards will be taking on a lot of opportunities to grow her music, including the release of her debut single, "Everyday", which will be released and available on all streaming platforms on March 15th. She will also be performing at Glimpseapolooza on June 4th and will be releasing a new song each month.
