Windsor’s economy stands at a crucial crossroads. With rising costs affecting everything from manufacturing to retail, our community must come together and support the backbone of our city—our local businesses.
The Economic Ripple EffectThe proposed tariffs could drive up prices on essential goods, putting pressure on households and businesses alike. This means that many Windsor-based companies, especially small and independent ones, may struggle to stay afloat. When local businesses suffer, jobs are lost, consumer spending declines, and the entire local economy takes a hit. But there’s a solution—one that’s in our hands. Choosing to support Windsor’s small businesses can help stabilize our economy and ensure that hard-earned money stays within our community. Why Supporting Local Matters
With the uncertainty of tariffs looming over Canada, Windsor has a golden opportunity to take control of its own economic future. By making a conscious effort to support our local businesses, we can keep our economy strong, our community thriving, and our city resilient in the face of challenges. Let’s make it a priority to support local—because Windsor’s future depends on it.

Photo and Story by Julianna Bonnett Theatre has the power to educate, inspire, and illuminate history, and that is precisely what Arts Collective Theatre (ACT) achieved with their production of The Price of Freedom. This past weekend of February 28, at the Capitol Theatre, the play was a significant part of the Amherstburg Freedom Museum’s 50th anniversary celebrations, bringing an important chapter of Black history to life for audiences in Windsor-Essex. ACT, known for its commitment to fostering local talent and producing socially conscious theatre, collaborated with the Amherstburg Freedom Museum to develop this original production. The play tells the powerful story of John Anderson, a Black man who fled to Canada in the 1860s seeking freedom. Accused of murdering a bounty hunter in self-defense, Anderson finds himself entangled in an intense legal battle as the United States demands his extradition. With the support of abolitionists and allies from the Underground Railroad, his case becomes a pivotal moment in Canada’s moral and legal identity. The production masterfully captured Anderson’s struggle, immersing the audience in the tension, resilience, and hope of the era. The Amherstburg Freedom Museum played a crucial role in shaping the play’s historical accuracy and depth. The creative team, including playwright Carlos Anthony, director Chris Rabideau, and ACT Vice President Moya McAlister, spent time at the museum, diving deep into the region’s history. This collaboration allowed the production to be both an artistic triumph and an educational tool. The Price of Freedom was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from the audience. The Capitol Theatre was filled with emotion as attendees connected with the powerful storytelling and performances. The play’s gripping courtroom scenes, heartfelt personal reflections, and stirring original music composed by Ian Smith created an unforgettable theatrical experience. Audience members praised the production for its poignant portrayal of history, its emotional impact, and the way it highlighted stories often overlooked in mainstream narratives. ACT’s dedication to community-driven theatre was evident throughout the production process. The company consistently engages with local talent, providing opportunities for actors, playwrights, and creatives to bring meaningful stories to the stage. With The Price of Freedom, ACT and the Amherstburg Freedom Museum not only honored the past but also inspired conversations about justice, resilience, and the ongoing journey toward equality. The production’s success stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, storytelling, and the enduring importance of preserving and sharing history through the arts.
